Bridesmaids gifts with purpose

So, you say you wanna get your girls something pretty, something affordable, something shiny maybe??? Now how about all of that plus charitable and good for other women? Can't be done? .... oh yes, yes we can!

Check out The Breast Cancer Site Store which is chock full of goodies at totally reasonable prices and all of your purchases provide mammograms to women in need. Want some evidence??? Good call counselor ...

Exhibit A - how about some pearls for your girls???

Exhibit B - ring-a-ding, ding?

Exhibit C - maybe you're into heavy metal?

You know I've made my case.

Oh and if your not into the jewelry thing, they have clothes, home products, bags, accessories ... let's face it, they have everything. So what are you waiting for?? Go buy yourself something pretty and help out women in need ... has there ever been a better idea? Answer = nope!

I want you!

So I know I am all anti-registry cause I am Russian and we only accept gifts that are flat and capable of being deposited into a bank account (no really! I am not just being a brat! Russians only give money at weddings, they think its rude to bring anything else! Back me up here Ruskies!). But sometimes I run into something and it makes me long to tell others to buy it for me (ok I think I might be coming across all wrong here .. but I am gonna roll with it.)

Anywhooooo ... I want this ....

I want it bad.

Its from here, and its making me reconsider that whole registry thing .. is it weird to only register for two things? This and cash! ... I think I can make it work ;)

Best. Registry Idea. Ever!

A gift is a gift is a gift is a gift .... and eventually all of the kitchen supplies and household appliances start to become redundant, especially if you already live together and have a bunch of this stuff ("Look hon, another coffee grinder .... woo?"). But how about a registry that lets guests give you a new kind of gift? An investment in your future! That is where weddingfutures steps in! Instead of giving you tangible gifts or cash (which some people feel uncomfortable with ... although not me! Bring on the cold hard cash people! More on this later when I explain that Russians only attend weddings with envelopes not boxes ... ok tangent over!). More on weddingfutures ....

See its easy! Ok get ta investin peoples.

A letter ...

Dear tree stump jewelry box,

I heart you and want you to live with me.

PS: You could also kind of be a kick-ass b-maids gift. Just sayin.

Put em up!

Getting fingerprinted ... its not usually associated with pleasant occasions in life .... mostly its associated with the words "book 'em dano!" .... or maybe that's just in my head where we are all living in film noir and I am street wise lady cop walkin the beat with my hunky partner? Wow, that was one seriously long digression! Anyways .... fingerprinting just got some big boosts in the wedding world though. First there was this fingerprint tree ... which clearly makes me swoon.

And now there are these!

Hot, hot, hot, with a side of heat. How come there are so many fantastic cufflinks out there in the world?? It's just criminal! Oh, come on! I couldn't resist.

Found on Victoria with Roses and sold at Chris Parry's etsy store..... and they do other fingerprint jewelry too!

What's cookin good lookin?

I love to cook .. well ok, let's be real. I love to eat. But cooking can be fun too ... especially when your making yummy stuff for yourself and your loved ones. But how do you learn the tricks of the trade without burning your whole house down? Well now there is some one who can teach you how to rock the socks off anyone who dares enter your home!

Gilda Mulero is a Personal Chef in NYC, who recently got in touch with me and asked me to let all of you know about one of her classes which is specifically designed to teach brides and grooms how to use all their new kitchen gadgets from their wedding registry. The class is known as "Cooking 101 for Newlyweds", and it has just earned a "three leaf" rating from the Green Bride Guide and has been featured in Manhattan Bride Magazine.

Check her out .. How effin fantastic would this be as a wedding or shower gift? I would dig it. Errr, dig in?

You're pretty. Can I take you home?

Just so you know this isn't really a weddings related post .. its just about pretty things I found when I should have been working ... kinda like right now, actually.

So I know we are done with the whole B-maid dress search and that I should stop perusing dresses on the interwebs .. but ahhhh just cause my homegirls have dresses doesn't mean I can't fall in lust with a few every now and then ... right??

Like how about this pretty young thing?
Its soft, and green, and feminine and all the things you could want from a sort of formal summery dress.

And now! Watch how I will make this seemingly rambling and irrelvant post somehow relate to weddings! Presto-Chango! ..... Ughh.. hmmmm ....

Oooh its perfect for a bridal shower! Who says a bride's gotta be in white all the time? Not I!

And, this little ditty is a pretty sexy bachellorette ensemble!
Ha! I did it ... its a wedding post after all. Turns out, you can make anything about weddings.

Man gift

I'm bad.

Cause even though I love my girls in a big, BIG way ... all I keep finding in my inspiration hunts are gifts for my guys ... but they are such great finds! Like these that I saw on Something Old, Something New the other day...

So great, right? They are from The Bead Bar Boutique on Etsy. The shop has various jewelry, cufflinks, money clips, etc... made out of old school subway tokens. They have other cities besides the NYC too ... so you can represent your hood. I will, of course, be showing the NYC pride.

For your naughty boy ... or boys

I just had to show you guys these ties from Miss Feeney's Finery. They are like the mullet of business attire .... well you know if the mullet was insanely chic and sassy ... anyway, they are business in front and party in back!

That's because in the front they look like classy, professional, handsome, serious ties but all your man's gotta do to see how you really feel about him is flip it up to see a very sexy pin-up girl. Suffice it to say, he will be very very happy to see you when he gets home.

I found 'em on Thrillist

PS: Ladies, I know its supposed to be for dudes and all but Thrillist kinda rocks.

Hyatt Wedding Registry

So I am not so into registering for gifts (Russians don't do wedding gifts, they bring envelopes full of cash and why mess with such a warm and wonderful tradition?) but this looks like a pretty sweet idea. Check the pitch peeps ...

Hyatt Hotels & Resorts Launches new Online Bridal Gift Registry

Hyatt Hotels & Resorts has unveiled the Hyatt Gift Registry, where couples can register online for a host of amenities, services and accommodations at Hyatt hotels and resorts worldwide.  Imagine spa treatments, dinners on the beach, scuba diving or an anniversary stay at a favorite hotel on a gift registry?  It's an ideal option for the couple who has everything.

Guests make a contribution towards Hyatt Gift Cards (redeemable at Hyatts in the U.S., Canada and Caribbean) or Hyatt Check Certificates™ (redeemable at Hyatts worldwide). Just like traditional registries, couples are notified as gifts arrive and they can make revisions with just a few easy clicks. Best of all, there are no expiration dates or blackout dates so any extra honeymoon credits can go towards future vacations, spa treatments, etc.

And if you're planning a destination wedding, couples who wed at a participating Hyatt property (in the U.S., Canada, Cancun, Mexico or Aruba) by June 30, 2010 will receive up to five complimentary nights towards their honeymoon.

Gift idea for the Big Guy ... or your guy

Its hard to find a good gift for a guy... and forget about trying to find something that will be meaningful enough to be romantic but also interesting enough for him to enjoy. That is why I am big time digging the 12 WAYS TO SAY I LOVE YOU JOURNAL. The journal offers prompts/teasers to help you get your words and feelings down on the page in interesting and sweet ways. It is hand bound in Rhode Island by Jason Thompson. And, the best part: it is only $28 at Uncommon Goods.

I am thinking of filling it out each month for a year before the wedding and giving it to the Big Guy on the big day ... but first we might have to actually set a date and find a venue (you know, just some small bumps in the plan).

More pretty shiny things...

Ok, what is better than something pretty? Something pretty with meaning.  I don't really like to wear jewelry without any sort of meaning (either given to me by someone special, or symbolic of  something important to me). That is why I love, love, love.... Dogeared Jewelry... Have I mentioned that I love them??

You can never go wrong when your gift gives not only to your friends but to charity too. So go with the one of their Find Cure Necklaces.

I am also a huge fan of their Make a Wish line.  Like the BFF necklace perfect for one of the fabulous chicas in your life...
Or maybe your friends are more some tough cookies? No problem! get them the Kick Ass Make a Wish Necklace.

Or maybe you need some luck in your life? Enter the Lucky Bamboo Necklace.
Or maybe you know someone who needs some knowledge knocked in to her... I mean encouraged! Get her some Pearls of Wisdom.

Yes they definitely have more than just necklaces (bracelets, earrings, etc...). And yes the price is right ... well the price ranges anywhere from $10 - $200+ but all of the stuff above is under $50 (most is way under!).

Don't forget to get something for yourself... you deserve some wishes too!

Threadless and fancy free

This morning I am thinking about the coolness that is Threadless T-Shirts. Regular shmoes like you and me draw designs and submit them to the website. Then people vote and if enough people are into it, the design gets immortalized in super cool t-shirt form. Since I have less drawing ability than a frog on crack attached to a pencil, I cannot help but be super impressed with the designs of others. I am currently using this as my resource for New Year's presents (yep, I am weird and Russian, we give presents on New Year's).  And the price is mucho mucho correct, it ranges from $5-$20 for t-shirts (they also have hoodies, onesies, etc.)

I know this is not technically wedding related.... but ..... uhhh ..... you can buy them as gifts for b-maids or g-men! There, now it is wedding post!

Here are some of my fave designs:

Continuing with theme of trees...

As the holiday season looms in the very near future, today I am thinking about presents. There is not a whole lot that I like more than giving people gifts... my very slim bank account can attest to this fact. Last year I decided to buy a small meaningful piece of jewelry for two of my closest friends (incidentally they will be my two maids of honor!) and I happened upon the The Giving Tree.

I found exactly what I was looking for (beautiful designer pieces) and the kind of personal service that makes you feel like you live in Pleasantville, USA and just bought something from the cool ladies who run the jewelry store down the street.

The owners of Giving Tree collect fabulous pieces. They are extremely knowledgeable about their products and are super helpful to their customers. Plus they have a blog! Let's get real they are really tipping the scales of awesome into uber awesomeness.

The website is the definition of user-friendly... my favorite part is that you can view the jewelry by price. Hello, $50 and under page, I will definitely be using you for bridesmaids gifts! Another fun feature are the descriptions of the jewelry designers that they carry. Each designer gets a page with some information regarding their work written by the ladies of Giving Tree Jewelry. They not only describe the designer's bio, they also describe the feeling of the jewelry that that person designs.

Ok I think I need to stop raving now...just go check it out!
